Jill Scott was born on April 4 1972 on the 4th of April 1972 in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to her mother Joyce Scott. The family of Jill Scott consisted of her mother and grandmother. Scott is an all-only child. Scott attended her school, the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Following her graduation, she attended Temple University. Between two work, she studied secondary education. She hoped she would become a English High School teacher. After three years of being teacher's assistant and studying the possibility to become a high school English teacher fell through. She started her career as a spoken word artist performing her own pieces during live poetry readings. She later joined forces with Amir Quest love Thompson of The Roots. You Got Me, their collaboration song, was composed by them. At a Roots concert, she was spotted in the spotlight as an artist. After that, she was able to get collaborations with artists like Eric Benet Will Smith and Common. In the Canada tour for The Broadway musical Rent She gained invaluable performance experience. She was also the very first signee to Hidden Beach Recordings.
